Abstract: This research examines the impact of informal learning on adult skill acquisition. The study aimed to explore how informal learning environments contribute to the development of practical skills among adults. The objectives were to assess the effectiveness of informal learning in enhancing specific skill sets, to evaluate the role of social interactions and self-directed learning in skill acquisition, and to identify the types of skills most effectively acquired through informal learning. A survey research design was employed as it allows for the collection of detailed data on various informal learning experiences and their outcomes. A sample size of 300 adults who engage in informal learning activities was selected to provide a comprehensive view of skill acquisition. The purposive sampling technique was used to target individuals who actively participate in informal learning settings. The case study focused on informal learning practices in Rivers, Nigeria. Findings indicated that informal learning significantly contributed to skill development, particularly in practical and vocational skills, through social interactions and self-directed efforts. The study recommended supporting and integrating informal learning opportunities into formal education frameworks to enhance adult skill acquisition further.
